The National Narcotics Agency (BNN) has invited ASEAN countries to work together to review the standard operating procedures for monitoring the handling of drug evidence seized in arrests.

The invited representatives from several ASEAN countries shared their expertise in this area and gave suggestions on reviewing the procedures.

Those ASEAN countries are Brunei Darussalam, Cambodia, Laos, Malaysia, the Philippines, Singapore, Thailand, and Myanmar.

The BNN chief, Comr. Gen. Gories Mere, said there were some loopholes in the standard procedures as stipulated in the law, which needed to be fixed.

“The law has assigned the agency to prevent drug abuse and drug dealing. The agency is also in charge of monitoring drug suspects and supervising how officers store and eventually destroy drug evidence that has been confiscated,” Gories was quoted by Tribunnews.com news portal.

“We need to keep reviewing the law,” he said.
